Transitions Create Transformation

SOMETHING HAPPENED, OR IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN, THAT CHANGES YOUR LIFE.

You’re excited, or paralyzed, or a little bit of both – depending on the day.  Maybe you love change, but this thing puts you out of your comfort zone and so you’re worried.  Perhaps you hate change and uncertainty, so you feel unmoored and unsafe.

Because the adjustments required in life transitions face us in directions that we have not traveled before, or that we do not want to travel, we may feel overwhelmed, uncertain, disconnected, or doubtful.  We may also grieve the aspects of our life, identity, or relationships that we lost due to the adjustment.  That’s a lot to process, feel, and handle on your own!  Let us help you grow into and thrive in the new role(s) through life transition therapy.

Change, even positive change, can be stressful and difficult.  Below are some common examples of life transitions that can evoke feelings of excitement and joy as well as worry and strain.

Common Impactful Life Transitions

  • Entering school
  • Marriage
  • Starting a family
  • Coming out
  • Taking a new job or position
  • Moving
  • Retirement
  • Having an “empty nest”

Common Challenging Life Transitions

Life transitions also include difficult, heart-breaking changes:

  • Traumatic accident
  • Loss of a job
  • Aging
  • Chronic illness

Impact Of Life Transitions

Life can leave a mark, but it doesn’t have to leave a scar

The life transitions mentioned above, and many others, can have a big impact on your experience of life.  The required adjustments, especially if unwanted, can hinder multiple domains of your overall health: emotional, physical, social, mental, and more.  You may notice that:

Your Mood Has Changed

  • Sadness
  • Worry
  • Irritability
  • Agitation
  • Impatience
  • Confusion

Your Health Is Strained

  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Changes in appetite
  • Frequent illness

Your Relationships Are Struggling

  • Reactivity
  • Annoyance
  • Lack of interest in engaging
  • Low arousal in romantic relationships

You Constantly Wonder

  • “How am I going to get through this?”
  • “What is wrong with me?”
  • “Am I broken?”

Having one or more of these “symptoms” doesn’t mean that you are “crazy” (though you might feel that way).  These are often normal reactions to stressful events.  That’s why we take an integrative, holistic, and companioning approach in life transitions therapy.  Companioning consists of walking with clients, rather than “treating” them as if there is something pathological happening.

Allow us to be a part of your evolution, your personal development.  Together we will:

  • Self-reflect to understand the meaning of the change(s) in your life
  • Practice effective coping strategies
  • Address the psychological and health implications of life events  (like loss, trauma, financial changes)
  • Connect with your values
  • Engage in pro-health behaviors and pleasure practices to increase your zeal and energy
  • Resolve major life transition issues to help you move toward the life you want to live.

As we move through the therapeutic process, you will be able to identify your strengths and acknowledge your incredible resilience.  This often leads to increased self-confidence, a sense of peace, and greater ease – all of which will help you move forward with optimism and courage.
